Programed by fellas with compassion and vision.&#8221;<em>Donald Fagen<\/em><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/author\/peterjohnson\/\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/author\/peterjohnson\/\">Peter Johnson<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Jul 19 2023 &#8211; 7:18 am PT<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Nissan-first-Tesla-NACS-Japan-1.jpeg?w=810&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Nissan-first-Tesla-NACS-Japan\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nissan is adopting Tesla\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/north-american-charging-standard-nacs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North American Charging Standard<\/a>&nbsp;(NACS) starting in 2025, the first Japanese automaker to make the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nissan-evs-will-use-tesla-nacs-in-a-first-for-japan\">Nissan EVs will use Tesla NACS in a first for Japan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting next year, Nissan will provide a NACS charging adopter for its first electric SUV,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/nissan-ariya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Ariya<\/a>, enabling drivers to access Tesla\u2019s Supercharge network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following year Nissan will begin offering EVs for the first time in the US and Canada with a NACS charging port. Nissan\u2019s senior vice president and chairperson of Nissan Americas, J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Papin, commented on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/global.nissannews.com\/en\/releases\/nissan-to-adopt-nacs-for-ariya-and-future-ev-models?_ga=2.70635728.1354642654.1689771541-80985824.1687447018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landmark agreement<\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Adopting the NACS standard underlines Nissan\u2019s commitment to making electric mobility even more accessible as we follow our Ambition 2030 long-term vision of greater electrification.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Papin says the automaker is \u201chappy to provide access to thousands more fast chargers for Nissan EV drivers.\u201d Tesla has roughly 17,000 Superchargers across the US, giving&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/nissan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nissan<\/a>&nbsp;EV owners access to one of the nation\u2019s most expansive, reliable networks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Nissan-electric-SUV-sales.jpeg?w=810&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Nissan-first-Tesla-NACS-Japan\" class=\"wp-image-308725\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nissan Ariya electric SUV (Source: Nissan)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/06\/08\/gm-announces-adopt-tesla-nacs-connector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ford and GM\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;announcement to work with Tesla and adopt NACS, much of the US industry has moved in that direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Major charging station companies (Blink, Electrify America, etc.), EV startups (Rivian, Polestar), German automakers (Mercedes-Benz), and more have all announced they will use Tesla\u2019s NACS connector, solidifying its position as the standard connector in North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nissan is currently retooling its Canton, Mississippi, assembly plant to become its \u201cNorth American electrification hub,\u201d including EV manufacturing a tech center over the next several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/06\/2024-Nissan-LEAF.jpeg?w=810&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"2024-Nissan-LEAF\" class=\"wp-image-307348\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">2024 Nissan LEAF (Source: Nissan)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The automaker plans to introduce two new electric vehicles to be assembled at the facility beginning in late 2025. According&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/07\/06\/nissan-plans-electric-sedans-crossovers-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to reports<\/a>, the first models will be a pair of electric sedans, followed by a couple of electric crossovers in 2026. The new models will help Nissan achieve its goal of 40% EV sales in the US by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good for Nissan for taking the initiative and becoming the first Japanese automaker to go with Tesla\u2019s NACS connector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Japanese automakers, including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and several others, have fallen behind in the market\u2019s transition to electric vehicles. In fact, Mitsubishi Motors revealed it was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/07\/14\/japans-ev-delay-takes-toll-mitsubishi-suspends-china-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspending its business in China<\/a>&nbsp;last week because it can\u2019t keep up in the world\u2019s largest EV market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;A just machine that make big decisions.
