Young, who will take office on Jan. 1, previously served as the president and CEO of the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC). On Wednesday, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialappeal.com\/story\/money\/business\/development\/2023\/12\/27\/downtown-memphis-commission-paul-young-chandell-ryan\/72033691007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DMC announced Chandell Ryan as its new president and CEO<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We recognize the importance of the work we are tasked with and are building a solutions-oriented team capable of innovative thought and response,&#8221; Young said in a statement. &#8220;This team will be mission-focused on crime, community, and creating a stronger Memphis \u2014 our priorities will be defined by our city&#8217;s needs.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.commercialappeal.com\/gcdn\/authoring\/authoring-images\/2023\/12\/14\/PMCA\/71924302007-ah-3-w-4987.jpg?w=810&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Mayor-elect Paul Young speaks about his vision for Memphis during the Greater Memphis Chamber's annual Chairman's Luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at The Peabody in Downtown Memphis.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All interim appointees currently hold the deputy chief or deputy director role in their respective departments, according to the news release. The newly created special advisor to the mayor on public safety role is still vacant as the administration continues its search. Division chief and director appointees are still subject to Memphis City Council approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday&#8217;s staff administration announcement comes a little more than a month since the mayor-elect made his first appointments. In November, Young\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialappeal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/11\/03\/tannera-gibson-penelope-huston-named-to-paul-youngs-memphis-mayoral-administration\/71437517007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced Tannera Gibson and Penelope Huston would be joining his staff.<\/a>\u00a0Gibson will serve as chief legal officer and Huston will be the chief communications officers.
