John Kennedy (R-La.) about it. Becerra seemed at a loss for answers, so I\u2019m happy to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medicare is a very important program that I fought to protect in Congress. In addition to seniors, Medicare serves certain people with disabilities and those with end-stage renal disease, like my daughter, who was born without kidneys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To access Medicare, there are options to choose from. Some seniors choose traditional Medicare and some choose a Medicare Advantage plan. I believe having these choices to access Medicare is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With traditional Medicare there are Parts A and B to cover most of the costs with hospital stays and doctor visits, but no catastrophic coverage. As a result, seniors end up paying more money to get Medigap plans in case of emergency. There is also no limit on out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries in traditional Medicare. Moreover, it doesn\u2019t include prescription, hearing, vision, or dental coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Medicare Advantage plans, on the other hand, all of these benefits come with a lower or even zero out-of-pocket cost to the beneficiary. That\u2019s why every year,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/medicare\/issue-brief\/medicare-advantage-in-2023-enrollment-update-and-key-trends\/\">enrollment in Medicare Advantage increases<\/a>. This year, 33 million Americans are enrolled. In ten years, the Congressional Budget Office&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/medicare\/issue-brief\/medicare-advantage-in-2023-enrollment-update-and-key-trends\/\">projects that 62 percent of eligible Americans<\/a>&nbsp;will be enrolled. Nearly 90 percent of enrollees are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/debgordon\/2022\/06\/13\/88-of-medicare-advantage-enrollees-are-happy-with-their-health-insurance-new-study-shows\/\">satisfied<\/a>&nbsp;with their coverage and say they would recommend Medicare Advantage to friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further, research&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/medicare-advantage-better-outcomes-study-inovalon-harvard-medical-school\/699244\/\">shows<\/a>&nbsp;that Medicare Advantage plans achieve better health outcomes for the beneficiaries they serve than traditional Medicare,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovalon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/FINAL-INS-23-2164-Harvard-Campaign-White-Paper-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cfewer hospital readmissions, fewer preventable hospitalizations and lower rates of high-risk medication use.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To put this into perspective, CMS\u2019s cuts to the Medicare Advantage program will drive up costs for the average beneficiary by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckerspayer.com\/payer\/medicare-advantage-members-could-see-396-benefit-cut-in-2025.html\">nearly $400<\/a>&nbsp;per year. This isn\u2019t just bad policy. In an election year when there are 33 million seniors who vote with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1096299\/voter-turnout-presidential-elections-by-age-historical\/\">72 percent turnout rate<\/a>&nbsp;that can easily make the difference in hotly contested races, this is terrible politics as well.
