Lake Como Pioneer: A Legacy of Service to Country and Community

Ft. Worth, Texas——— Roosevelt Burrell, Jr., age 95, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

The Life Celebration will be held at 11:00am on Monday February 13, 2023 at Strangers Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 5705 Donnelly at Horne Street with Pastor Eddie Brown officiating. The family will gather on Sunday at the church February 12, 2023 from 5-6 pm for an hour of reflection on precious memories.

Mr. Burrell will be laid to rest Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 3:15pm Monday afternoon following the celebration

Mr. Burrell became the patriarch of his family of sic brothers and one sister after being reared in Palestine, Tx. In 1948, he and his wife Pearlie Beatrice Burrell moved to Fort Worth’s northside then shortly thereafter grounded their family in the Lake Como Community.

With his passion for family, church and community, this self-made businessman became and entrepreneur in 1963. He started Roosevelt Burrell, Jr. and Son Construction Company Inc., where he built HUD residential and commercial buildings. Mr. Burrell transitioned to statewide highway construction projects and metroplex-wide mechanized power washing contracts to clean the downtown city sidewalks through Cowtown Traffic Control & Barricades, Inc. Roosevelt helped contribute to the growth and development of the state of Texas and the DFW Metroplex for many years.

Mr. Burrell was a WWII Navy veteran, strong community leader and a deacon and finance manager at his church for over 50 years. He was respected and adored by all who knew him.

Mr. Burrell is survived by one sibling, three children, five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family has requested any and all donations may be made to Cook Children’s Health Foundation in memory of Roosevelt Burrell, Jr.
