First, Buc-ee’s came to the Texas panhandle by opening a store in Amarillo late last year. Now, the Texas favorite gas station is considering a new location in the Florida Panhandle.
Buc-ee’s submitted a permit application for a possible new store in Tallahassee, Florida’s capital city. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the permit was submitted earlier this month and is currently under review.
The permit proposes a 75,000 square foot store north of Interstate 10, about the same size as the Buc-ee’s in Luling, Texas. In addition to a retail and food store, the permit application in Tallahassee proposes 120 fueling stations, 795 standard parking spaces, and 24 EV parking spaces. Plus, Buc-ee’s is proposing 11 bus/RV parking spaces. It’s a massive store, but described as just smaller than another Florida location that Buc-ee’s proposed in St. Lucie County. Early conceptual plans for that site described the store as more than 76,000 square feet.
Still, Buc-ee’s has previously indicated that Texas can continue to claim the largest Buc-ee’s with its Luling store located about an hour from both San Antonio and Austin. “Luling is, and will remain, the largest Buc-ee’s Travel Center in our fleet,” Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development, told the Chron last month. “Planning departments throughout the country have different parameters for reporting building sizes in planning documents. This is an example of that confusion.”
Apart from these latest proposed stores, Buc-ee’s already has a presence in Florida. In 2021, Buc-ee’s opene a store in St. Augustine after being attracted to the area due to its proximity to other locations in the South. The Texas chain was also massively popular among visitors at the Daytona Beach location when it opened, attracting 2,5000customers in its first few hours.
