Spurs Play-by-Play Announcer Flies A Little Too Close To The Sun-Fired After Alleged Affair With Player’s Sister

by Don Mooney

The initial Instagram story was followed up with a photo strip that appeared to show Tobey and Loren Waters, the sister of San Antonio Spurs player Lindy Waters III, together and kissing.

Memphis, TN—The term flying too close to the comes to mind when I heard about Jacob Tobey, who served as the Spurs’ play-by-play television announcer for the past two seasons, getting fired after accusations of him having an affair with the sister of a San Antonio player circulated the internet this week, according to Tennessee Texan.

Late Tuesday night, a post appeared on Tobey’s Instagram story that read: “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. @lorenkwatrs. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not.

Tobey recently wrapped up his second full season calling Spurs games alongside team legend Sean Elliott. Three weeks ago, Tobey announced via X that he was set to be part of the organization for the foreseeable future.

Spurs Sports & Entertainment, the team’s parent company, declined requests for comment to KSAT for this story. Multiple sources, who are not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, confirmed the report’s accuracy to KSAT on Thursday.

While the team has yet to comment on the report, Tobey was the subject of a social media firestorm earlier this week.

A woman, who claimed to be Tobey’s longtime girlfriend, accused him of being unfaithful with the relative of a Spurs player. KSAT could not independently confirm the woman’s allegation. Was it worth it?
